Hi all, I'm participating in the Weekend Warriors Snippet Sunday. This month, I'll be taking snippets from my steampunk romance, A Princess is Always Right. You can find the Weekend Warriors Snippet Sunday list at:

About this excerpt: This snippet picks up where we left off at the last snippet sunday.

ENJOY THIS SNIPPET:
She sighed, realizing she could only think of one major problem at a time and her future would have to wait. "I have to be right when it comes to Jonas. I have to catch him."
"Come here."

She needed him – his comfort, his presence, his reassurance. Sophia slid off the chair and sat down beside him, facing him. He placed his hand against the side of her neck and drew her close. His eyes narrowed. His mouth opened and his lips slid over hers. He tasted of hops, heady and sweet.

BLURB:

Sophia may be the youngest Windsor, but she knows her mind. A Princess of York, she's committed to do her duty – prevent Jonas Byron from finding Nikola Tesla and decimating the time line.

Jax Ruston is a rugged metalsmith with curly hair and dimples to die for. A resident of 1855, he's pledged to help Sophia find Jonas. Together, they journey across continental Europe in pursuit of Jonas.

Despite her duty, Sophia's attracted to handsome Jax. However, he's committed to living in 1855. Can Sophia keep her focus on her mission, or will desire interfere with her task? Only one thing is certain: a princess is always right.

NEW RELEASE: A Princess is Always Right, Author Interview #newrelease

Question: How long did it take you to write the novel?

Steph: I wrote the first 50K for NaNoWriMo last November, but then Christmas and the Scouts hit. Lol! I picked back up in March and finished it in April.

Question: Where did the inspiration for the novel come from?

Steph: I wanted to tell Sophia's story. She's the only Windsor I hadn't written for and every Windsor deserves to be heard. Of course there's a time traveling twist – she's got to stop Jonas from finding Nikola Tesla or history might not turn out the way it should. It was also a great way to work Edmund in again and really finish up the family's story.

Question: How does the cover represent the novel within?

Steph: There's a woman on the cover with a hand on her hip and a lot of attitude in her stance.  That's Sophia. She's a feisty, determined heroine. The background is a sepia-tone world with a dirigible to represent the steampunk theme of the story.

Question: Sophia is the heroine.  What does the hero, Jax, find appealing about her?

Steph: He likes that she knows her own mind and is willing to try new things.  He sees her an equal and he's looking for that in a woman.

Question: What does Sophia find appealing about Jax? Especially since he's not a prince?

Steph:  Sophia doesn't look at titles.  She sees Jax for the kind hearted, hard working man he is and she likes that. He takes responsibility and that's very appealing to her.

Question: What's your writing process like?

Steph: I come up with a basic plot. From there, I do my research. Mostly, I use the Internet. I compile notes, write character bios, cast my characters and then outline a "rough" plot.  After that I plot out the first 3 chapters.  Once I write them, I plot out the next 3 chapters. This helps me be responsive to the characters and where they want to go. Usually, it takes me 3 months to write, but this one took a little longer due to my real life commitments.  I usually write everything on paper with a pen and then I type it up.

Question: What book(s) are you reading now?

Steph: I just finished "Twelve Sharp" by Janet Evanovich and "Invasion of the Tearling" by Erikka Johansen. I loved the story of the Tearling and can't wait for the next book.

Question: What do you want to be for Halloween?

Steph: Maybe I'll be an Ipad again.

Author Bio: Stephanie Burkhart is a 911 dispatcher for LAPD. She was born and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire and spent 11 years serving in the US Army. She loves coffee, adores chocolate, and is a cub scout den leader. She has books published with Desert Breeze Publishing, 4RV Publishing, and Victory Tales Press.

ENJOY THIS BLURB:

Excerpt
She wrinkled her brow. What did she want? To go home and train horses and pray the press leave her alone? To support charities? Sure, the task was noble, but not...fulfilling. Would she be dispatched through Great Britain as a goodwill ambassador? Did she want to seek higher schooling like Richard had? Was there a balance to be found between her personal life and her royal obligations? Richard and Alice seemed to find that balance, but Sophia felt almost rudderless in this moment. Did she want to remain a princess or enjoy the anonymity that Edmund possessed?
She ran a hand over her hair. She'd never felt so directionless before. Why was that? Because she wanted Jax in her life? They had discussed visiting each other using the time machine before Augustus' uncle passed away, but Sophia believed travel wouldn't be approved just for dating.
"You're a Windsor. Duty first. Love second. That's what I did and the nation benefited because of it." Liz's voice filled with pride.
"I had no idea it was such a thought provoking question." He kept his voice light in an effort to put her at ease.
She placed her hands in her lap. "Surprisingly, it is."
"How so?"
"I have some very serious decisions to make regarding my future." She drew in a breath. "And the direction I want to take it in."
He chuckled. "Remember -- a princess is always right."
She sighed, realizing she could only think of one major problem at a time and her future would have to wait. "I have to be right when it comes to Jonas. I have to catch him."

NEW RELEASE: A Princess is Always Right, character interview w/Sophia Windsor

CHARACTER INTERVIEW WITH JACK & SOPHIA:

Jack: I'm Jack Brandon and I am a reporter for some of the scandalous magazines in the world.  I also reported for several reputable magazines, but that's not what made me famous, trust me.  Today, I cornered Sophia, Princess of York, in one of the local fancy shops she liked to frequent.  Her father is James, the Duke of York. Sophia's just graduated from finishing school.  So, Sophia, what are you going to do with the rest of your life?

Brandon Routh, Inspiration for Jack Brandon
Sophia: Gosh,  hat a fantastic opening, Jack. I have no idea what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I just got out of finishing school.

Jack: All right, then, what are you doing today?

Julianne Hough, inspiration for Sophia
Sophia: I'm going to meet my sister, Alice, and help her plan her wedding.

Jack: Very interesting. You know, I tried poking around her fiancé's background, but I can't find much. It's like he never existed.

Sophia: Grayson is an outstanding guy and he has a lot of integrity – unlike some reporters I know.

Jack: Hey, I have integrity. I never lie.  In fact, I heard that Professor Byron has developed a working time machine.

Sophia: Well, I can officially confirm he did, but it's a work in a progress.

Jack: Have you used it?

Sophia: Me? Well, I can't tell you that. That's a state secret!

Jack: I suspect your sister has used it. I bet you've conned the Professor into using it, too.

Sophia. My lips are zipped.

Jack: So how do I get a look at the time machine?

Time Machine
Sophia: Not through me. I maybe young, but I'm not falling for your flattery.

Jack: I rarely resort to flattery. I've been told I'm more direct.

Sophia: Annoyingly, so.

Jack: Now, I've heard you've been seen on a couple of dates with a mystery man.

Sophia: Oh.

Jack:  Yes, you and him along with your sister and her fiancĂ© were spotted at several London coffee shops here lately. I hear he never pays the bill, though. Sounds like a cheapskate.

Sophia: Jax is no cheapskate.

Jack: So his name is Jax?

Sophia: Yes, Jax Ruston.

Mark Sanchez,
inspiration for Jax Ruston
Jack: What does he do for a living?

Sophia: He's, ah…I suppose you could call him a bit of an engineer.

Jack: How did you meet an engineer?

Sophia: Cambridge.

RING! RING!

Jack. Excuse me.  (I paused and answered my cell phone.  Sophia gave me some stink eye, but I had to take the call it was from my editor.  Turning around I walked away and answered his questions. When I glanced over my shoulder Sophia was gone.)

Jack: How do those Windsors disappear like that?
